Trespassing? Fo Real?

Aight so peep this cuz. Word on the streets of Long Beach and now Newark is that Mayor Ras Baraka got himself snatched up. Seems like he decided to take a little field trip to the local ICE detention center uninvited. They say he was all up in there past the velvet rope without a backstage pass know what I'm sayin'? Interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba who used to roll with Trump ain't playin'. She said he ignored warnings disrespected the law and now he's chillin' downtown in a cell not a mansion. Talk about a buzzkill huh?

No One's Above the Law? Geee!

Habba be throwin' shade like a palm tree at high noon droppin' that 'NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW' line. Reminds me of back in the day when they tried to tell me I couldn't smoke my chronic in peace. Even mayors gotta respect the rules or else it's just straight up chaos and ain't nobody got time for that.

Political Stunt or Nah?

Now Baraka's camp is sayin' this is all just a big misunderstanding. His spokesman Kabir Moss confirmed the arrest but also said that the mayor was just tryin' to flex his political muscles and stir the pot as he campaigns to be the next governor of New Jersey. Three other U.S. House Democrats from Jersey showed up to support the mayor. Homeland Security is calling it a 'bizarre political stunt'. They say the mayor and his crew 'stormed the gate' and 'broke into' the facility while a busload of detainees tried to enter the premises. I dunno sounds like a scene straight out of a bad action movie but who knows what really went down.

Mayor vs. The Feds

Here's the kicker though. Turns out Baraka's administration was already throwin' elbows tryin' to block the opening of this detention center in the first place. They filed a lawsuit back in March claimin' the operators didn't get the right permits and violated city codes. So this ain't just some random act of rebellion; it's part of a bigger beef between the mayor and the feds. Makes you wonder if this arrest was just a matter of time right?

Tour Denied Drama Amplified

Homeland Security claims they would have rolled out the red carpet or at least a welcome mat if the man had requested a tour. But instead they allegedly charged in like a bunch of wild dogs. According to Tricia McLaughlin the Homeland Security spokeswoman "Had these members requested a tour we would have facilitated a tour of the facility. This is an evolving situation." Maybe next time holla at 'em for a guided experience and avoid the whole trespassing situation. Just a thought know what I'm sayin'?
