Another Truce? Déjà Vu Anyone?

Hola everyone! Leo here. So I hear Putin's announced another ceasefire this time for three days to celebrate the end of World War II. Reminds me of when I try to take a free kick – lots of build up everyone holding their breath and then... *thwack*... straight into the wall. You know the wall that's been there all along. They say it's from May 8th to the 10th. Honestly after that 30 hour Easter 'truce,' I'm less optimistic than when Argentina plays Germany. Twice.

The Kremlin's Charm Offensive (or Is It?)

The Kremlin says 'All military actions are suspended.' Sure just like when I say I'm going to take it easy in training. Then five minutes later I'm doing sprints like my life depends on it. And the classic line: 'In the event of violations by the Ukrainian side Russia's armed forces will give an adequate and effective response.' It's like saying 'If anyone touches my ball I'm dribbling the entire field!' Very subtle very peaceful. Not!

Trump's Got His Eye on the Ball

Apparently this whole thing is to show President Trump that Russia's still keen on peace. It reminds me when teams try to get my attention by fouling me 24/7. I appreciate the effort but maybe a direct pass would be more effective? And Trump said Putin was 'just tapping me along' Sounds like someone's been watching too many of my highlight reels and confusing geopolitics with fancy footwork.

Ukraine and Europe: Not Buying It Folks!

Ukraine and its European allies? They're about as convinced as I am that VAR decisions are always fair. Which is to say not at all. 'Show don't tell,' I always say. Or as my abuela used to say 'Words are wind but goals are forever.' And right now all I see is a lot of wind.

Washington's Red Card

Washington's threatening to pull the plug on peace efforts unless there's 'real progress.' That's like threatening to take away my ball if I don't score a hat trick every game. A bit dramatic no? But hey I understand the frustration. Sometimes you just want to see a clear shot on goal not more zig zagging.

My Two Cents (Which Are Worth a Lot More By the Way)

Look I'm just a guy who kicks a ball for a living but even I can see this situation is more complicated than trying to explain offside to my teammates. I hope for peace of course. But until I see some actual goals being scored I'll remain... cautiously optimistic. Now if you'll excuse me I have a training session to get to. And maybe I'll practice my penalty kicks just in case.
