Clean Your Room Then Run an Airline!
Right so Ted Christie the chap in charge of Spirit Airlines has decided to shall we say *re evaluate his hierarchical position*. He's stepping down. Now you might think 'Well Peterson what's the big deal? CEOs come and go.' And you'd be right *except* this is Spirit Airlines. They just emerged from the belly of the beast that is bankruptcy. It's like surviving a dragon attack only to find out your knight in shining armor has packed his bags. One has to wonder did he clean his room before resigning? Because a chaotic room reflects a chaotic mind and a chaotic airline is… well you get the picture. Start with yourself people!
The Chaos Dragon of Chapter 11
This airline see it filed for bankruptcy protection last November. Now bankruptcy...it’s a bit like facing your shadow. All those mounting losses the failed merger the fickle consumer tastes...it's the chaos that lurks beneath the surface of every endeavor. Christie he was at the helm during the Covid storm a true test of character wouldn't you say? And now with the airline teetering on the edge he's handing over the reins to a committee a triumvirate of executives. CFO Fred Cromer COO John Bendoraitis and General Counsel Thomas Canfield. A committee. Good luck with that! As they say too many cooks spoil the broth. Though perhaps that is exactly what Spirit Airlines needs right now a little bit of spoiled broth.
No Frills No CEO?
Spirit Airlines you see they pioneered this 'no frills' approach. It's all about stripping away the excess the superfluous the things that *actually* make flying somewhat bearable. And now it seems they're applying that same philosophy to leadership. Is this a good strategy? Well what do you expect when you’re playing the game of chicken with the consumer? They want cheap you give them cheap. They want leg room you give them…well you get the picture. One wonders are they applying the same logic to the CEO position? No frills CEO anyone?
The Enneagram of Executive Departure
Now I’m not going to psychoanalyze Mr. Christie from afar – that would be irresponsible wouldn't it? However one can speculate about the underlying motivations. Perhaps he saw the writing on the wall. Perhaps he simply needed a break from the existential dread of managing a budget airline on the brink. Or perhaps he just cleaned his room and realized he was ready for something new. Whatever the reason his departure leaves a void a power vacuum waiting to be filled. Which reminds me have you been spending all your time thinking about a void to fill in your company instead of working on yourself?
The Triumvirate: Order from Chaos?
This 'group of executives' stepping in... well it's a band aid solution at best. It's like trying to herd cats while simultaneously navigating a turbulent flight path. Can they maintain order? Can they navigate the complex challenges of the airline industry? Can they emerge victorious carrying the torch of Spirit Airlines into a brighter more profitable future? One can only hope they have a strong sense of personal responsibility and a willingness to confront the chaos dragon head on. Or you know they could just blame the consumers. That's always an option.
Buckle Up Buttercup!
So what does all this mean? Well it means the future of Spirit Airlines is uncertain. It means the airline industry is a brutal unforgiving landscape. And it means that even the most seemingly stable institutions can crumble under the weight of their own contradictions. But remember even in the darkest of times there is always hope. Hope that someone somewhere will clean their room take responsibility and lead us all to a better place. Or at the very least provide a decent in flight snack. Buckle up buttercup it’s going to be a bumpy ride!

This airline is like the lobster of the skies – cheap, but you know it's gonna be a gamble.
