The Serpent of Superintelligence
Right well it seems Meta or as I like to call them 'The Attention Merchants,' are now chasing the dragon of 'superintelligence.' This of course is AI that surpasses human intelligence. Now I'm not inherently against progress but let's not forget the fundamental principle: before you aim to conquer the cosmos you should probably learn to make your bed and clean your room. I mean have they even sorted out the algorithm's bias before aiming for godhood?
Billion Dollar Bets and Existential Dread
They're talking about pouring billions into this venture potentially over $10 billion into Scale AI. It makes you wonder doesn't it? Are they trying to solve the world's problems or are they simply trying to replace us all? Because you see the pursuit of 'superintelligence' is fine but as Nietzsche so eloquently put it 'He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster.' And in this case the monster is an unchecked all powerful AI. So maybe slow down take a breath and ask yourselves if this is a road worth walking.
Zuckerberg's Personal Crusade: The Pied Piper of AI?
Apparently Zuckerberg is personally recruiting a team of 50. Fifty! I can just imagine the pitch meeting: 'Come join me and together we shall build the ultimate thinking machine a digital overlord that will…optimize ad revenue!' It's a bit like being invited to build the Tower of Babel except instead of reaching Heaven you're just trying to sell more targeted advertising. There is a fundamental element of meaning to be considered and I don't think Zuckerberg is thinking about that.
From AI Assistant to Digital Dictator: A Slippery Slope
Meta is boasting about its AI assistant having a billion monthly active users. A billion! That's a significant portion of the human population. Are we creating a tool or are we creating a shepherd that leads us blindly into a digital pasture of carefully curated content? As Dostoevsky would suggest perhaps we are trading our freedom for security a bargain that rarely ends well.
Subscription Services and the Commodification of Thought
And of course there's talk of a paid subscription service like ChatGPT. So now not only are we giving away our data for free but we're also going to pay for the privilege of interacting with an artificial intelligence. It's like paying to have your thoughts analyzed and regurgitated back at you only slightly more coherent. The free market is a wonderful thing but commodifying thought itself might be a step too far.
The Meta Mirage: Chasing Shadows in the Digital Desert
Ultimately this whole endeavor smacks of a company desperately trying to stay relevant in a rapidly changing landscape. Are they genuinely interested in advancing the human condition or are they simply chasing the next shiny object to distract us from the existential void? Only time will tell. But in the meantime I suggest we all take a long hard look at the direction we're heading and ask ourselves 'Are we building a better future or are we simply creating a more efficient way to waste our time?' And you know maybe clean your room. Just in case.
