Avengers Assemble... Almost!

Well folks your friendly neighborhood Captain America here reporting live from… well not the front lines but the slightly less exciting yet equally important battleground of the U.S. Senate. It seems President Trump's "big beautiful bill" just cleared a hurdle faster than I can say "Avengers Assemble!" But just like assembling the Avengers getting everyone on board with this thing was a bit of a… kerfuffle.

The 'No' Men (and Women!)

Now you’d think getting folks to agree on something that’s supposed to be “big and beautiful” would be easier than convincing Tony Stark to share his toys. But alas every Democrat and a couple of Republicans – Sens. Tillis and Paul – decided to play the role of the Red Skull digging in their heels faster than Bucky Barnes in a fight. And trust me that's saying something!

Flip Flopping Fury!

The voting process took longer than it took me to adjust to the 21st century and after three Republican Senators – Lee Scott and Lummus – had a change of heart Sen. Ron Johnson pulled a Loki esque move and switched his vote from 'no' to 'yes'. Talk about a dramatic plot twist! I swear sometimes I miss the simplicity of punching Nazis.

Thune's Triumph (For Now)

So Senator Thune is trying to get this bill to Trump's desk faster than Quicksilver can run a lap around the world. But let me tell you with all the wrangling and uncertainty it's been trickier than defusing a Hydra bomb. It's like he's playing chess with the Winter Soldier – you never know what move is coming next!

Schumer's Marathon Read a Thon

And just when you thought the drama was over Senator Schumer and the Democrats decided to pull an all nighter reading the entire 940 page bill aloud. “We will be here all night if that's what it takes,” Schumer said. Sounds like a filibuster more epic than the Battle of New York! I hope they have plenty of coffee because even I’d need a nap after that.

House of Cards (and Bills)

Now this whole thing has to go through the House too and some folks there aren't too happy about the deep cuts to Medicaid. It seems like this bill is about to face a battle more intense than the Infinity War. But if there's one thing I've learned it's that even when things look grim "We can do this all day." Let's just hope they can get their act together before July 4th or we might be celebrating Independence Day with a side of political gridlock!
