A Tragedy Compounded

Folks sometimes I feel like I'm fighting a Hydra. You cut off one head and two more appear. Just when you think evil can't sink any lower someone proves you wrong. The news coming out of Minnesota about Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband is just… well it’s enough to make a Super Soldier want to hang up his shield. But we don’t do that do we? We keep fighting. We keep striving for a better world even when it feels like we're losing ground. Now just days after their tragic murder I'm hearing reports that their home was broken into. Honestly it makes you wonder what kind of world we're living in.

Plywood and Broken Windows: A Coward's Entry

The Brooklyn Park Police Department reported that the burglar pried off plywood covering a rear window. Plywood folks! That's about as subtle as the Hulk trying to sneak into a library. What kind of lowlife stoops to ransacking the home of someone who can't even defend themselves anymore? It's just… wrong. The police confirmed the home was searched but thankfully the family doesn't believe anything is missing. Small mercies I suppose. "I can do this all day," sure but that doesn't mean I *want* to deal with this kind of garbage all day.

Justice Delayed Justice Denied?

Authorities have stated that all evidence related to the homicides had been collected prior to this break in. Which begs the question: what were they even looking for? It just adds another layer of ugliness to an already horrific situation. It’s like finding out Red Skull moonlights as a car salesman. You’re already dealing with one problem and suddenly there’s another one selling you a lemon with a smile. We need to ensure justice is served not just for the murders but for this despicable act of violation as well.

A Web of Violence and Hate

As you all know the alleged perpetrator Vance Luther Boelter is accused of impersonating law enforcement to gain entry to the Hortman's home. He is facing state and federal charges for the attacks. It's a grim reminder that hate can wear many faces even a badge it doesn’t deserve. This Boelter character also allegedly targeted Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette and even visited the homes of other lawmakers with malicious intent. Thank goodness they’re expected to survive but it highlights just how far some people are willing to go. You know I've faced down armies aliens and robots but this kind of cold calculated hate… it chills me to the bone.

The Long Arm of the Law

Boelter is currently in custody and some of the charges he faces could potentially carry the death penalty. I believe in justice and justice demands a thorough investigation and a fair trial. It's up to the courts to decide his fate but let's hope it sends a clear message that this kind of violence and hatred has no place in our society. As Nick Fury always told me "That's how you beat them Rogers. You show them that you're willing to do the things they won't."

We Fight Onward!

This is a dark time but we can’t let it break us. We need to stand together support the Hortman family and demand accountability. We owe it to them and we owe it to ourselves. It's not enough to just be against the bad. We have to be *for* the good. We have to be *for* justice *for* equality *for* a world where tragedies like this are a thing of the past. So let’s get to work. As they say “Avengers Assemble!” But this time it’s not just about fighting supervillains. It’s about fighting for the soul of our nation.
