The Art of the Steal... I Mean Deal
Alright let's break this down shall we? These Republicans with their 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act,' are proposing $1.1 trillion in healthcare cuts. A trillion! That’s real money. Enough to buy a goddamn island or maybe a controlling stake in a few struggling hockey teams. They're targeting Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act which last I checked helps actual people. You know the ones who can't afford a personal physician on retainer. Sounds like they are trying to 'hide the ball' on the American people and I never let them get away with that so I am going to point out how terrible this bill is.
16 Million Reasons to Be Pissed
The Congressional Budget Office says 16 million people could lose coverage. 7.8 million from Medicaid and 8.2 million from the ACA. Think about that for a second. That's more than the population of New York City! And what happens when those people get sick? They either die or they rack up debt. Either way not exactly a 'beautiful' outcome. I'd say that is 'the definition of insanity' and I'm pretty sure that even Wags would agree.
$50 Billion... With a 'B' in New Medical Debt
Third Way says medical debt could increase by $50 billion. That's a 15% rise over the already ridiculous $340 billion we're sitting on. Medical debt is a cancer eating away at the American dream and these clowns want to pump it full of steroids. It's not about being 'short sighted' either it's the fact that they are 'blinded by greed'.
Dreams on Hold: College Retirement and That McMansion
David Kendall from Third Way is right. Medical debt stands in the way of the American Dream. These cuts could delay college ruin retirement plans and put that dream house out of reach. It’s like telling someone they can run a marathon and then shooting them in the foot. 'What is the point of being rich if you can't trample on people who aren't?' I am saying this ironically of course because the real crime here is trampling over people who can't afford healthcare.
Waste Fraud and Bullshit
The White House is spinning this as eliminating 'waste fraud and abuse.' Yeah right. That's the same excuse they use to justify cutting school lunches and environmental protections. It's always the same song and dance. This so called 'economic windfall for working and middle class Americans' is simply 'hogwash'.
A Bipartisan Plea... Lost in the Wind?
Senators Merkley Booker Schumer and Wyden are urging Republicans to reconsider. They're pointing out that addressing medical debt should be a 'national priority.' Good luck with that. These guys are about as likely to listen as Wags is to give up hookers and blow. But hey at least they're trying. Currently 16 states are looking into canceling medical debt and or eliminating it from credit reports. This has bipartisan support but you are just going to have to 'wait and see' to see if the good guys can win on this issue.
