The Bold Plan Afoot For World Domination (Via Electric Vehicles)
Mwahahaha. As Doctor Evil I must say Rivian's plans are...ambitious. They're aiming for a 47% to 59% increase in vehicle deliveries by 2026 fueled by this so called "R2 SUV." I mean come on an SUV? Where's the laser beam attachment? The shark tank? Still if they pull it off it will make some people very happy even though i plan to electrify earth with my own vehicles.
Losses Losses Everywhere and Not a Pot of Gold to be Seen
Ah yes the fine print. While Rivian dreams of world EV domination they're also projecting adjusted pre tax losses of $1.8 billion to $2.1 billion in 2026. That's almost enough to fund my moon base! And speaking of grand schemes and moon bases if you want to know about others in the automotive world see this article about Cooper Companies Eyeball Extravaganza Jana Partners Demands Strategic Vision. These people are all trying to achieve some sort of power. Still at least they're upfront about it unlike some people i know... Number Two I'm looking at you.
R2 The Vehicle To Save the Company and Doom Petrolheads
This R2 is supposed to be the game changer. RJ Scaringe or as I like to call him "Number Three" (no relation) claims it will cut build material costs in half and reduce production complexity. Sounds like a good start but can it stop a laser beam? Doubtful. But hey at least they're trying to make EVs more affordable and available. The key will be to make affordable and fast.
A Glimmer of Profit in the Valley of Doom
In a shocking turn of events Rivian actually achieved its first annual gross profit. $144 million! That's barely enough to cover my dry cleaning bill! This was thanks to their little joint venture with Volkswagen. But don't get too excited because their CFO Claire McDonough says this year will be a "transition year." Translation: more losses are coming. I would buy Volkswagen if they were more affordable.
Cash is King and Rivian's Got a Decent Hoard. For Now.
Rivian ended the year with $6.59 billion in total liquidity which is enough to keep the lights on for a little while longer. But they'll need every penny to make this R2 gamble pay off. This year is crucial and I am watching closely as I am planning to take over all EV company and Rivian could be one.
Technological Advancements or Just Shiny New Gadgets
Rivian is promising "technological advancements" with the R2. Let's hope it's more than just a fancy cupholder and a self parking feature. We need self destruct buttons rocket boosters and maybe a built in Austin Powers impersonator. Otherwise what's the point? The point is making the car much more desirable to ensure the market wants more.
