10 Million Trips and Still Rollin'

Aight check it y'all. Ya boy Snoop D O double G here droppin' knowledge on the latest tech buzz. Waymo that Alphabet jizzle just hit 10 million rides man! That's like a whole lotta folks ditchin' their whips and gettin' chauffeured around by robots. Co CEO Tekedra Mawakana was all smiles at the Google I/O conference sayin' these ain't no joyrides these are paid trips real people usin' Waymo like it's their everyday thang. Fo shizzle!

From the Bay to the ATX

Waymo's spreadin' the love from San Fran to Los Angeles Austin and the Phoenix area. They pumpin' out over 250,000 rides a week according to Alphabet's reports. And peep this they just got the green light to cruise even more of the Bay Area including San Jose. West Coast best coast know what I'm sayin'?

Show Me the Money (Or Not Yet)

Now here's the real tea. Waymo's still in Alphabet's 'Other Bets' category which means they ain't exactly swimmin' in profit just yet. They brought in $450 million but lost a grip – like $1.23 billion. Mawakana straight up admitted they ain't profitable yet but she swearin' up and down they workin' on it. “We're proving out that it can be a profitable business,” she said. “There's a path to profitability.” Word.

Elon's in the Mix

Hold up holla at your boy Elon Musk is comin' for that robotaxi throne! He's been chattin' bout launchin' Tesla robotaxis in Austin next month. He says they startin' with 10 whips and if all goes well boom thousands more. After Austin he wants to bring those autonomous rides to Los Angeles and San Francisco. It's like the Wild West out here y'all.

Cameras vs. Lasers: The Tech Throwdown

Now here's where it gets techy. Waymo's usin' all kinds of fancy sensors – lidar radar the whole shebang. Tesla on the other hand is all about cameras and computer vision. Musk claims Tesla's approach is more ambitious than Waymo's. It's like the difference between smokin' top shelf and rollin' with the cheap stuff know what I mean? Both get you high but one's a smoother ride.

Safety First Fo Shizzle

Mawakana clapped back sayin' Waymo's takin' the safest route. “There's probably a lot of ways it can be done but we're the only ones that have done it,” she said. “We've been doing it 24 hours a day for almost five years. And so to us it's really important to focus on safety not focus on safety and then cost — not cost and then safety.” I'm with her on this one. Safety first then we blaze it up!
