Now I’ve seen fires before – mostly set by yours truly while escaping from Nazis or rival archaeologists – but this one could have some serious global implications. Industry sources say operations have been suspended and that always spells trouble when it comes to black gold.

This fire pops up right after the U.S. decided to pay a visit to Iran’s Kharg Island another vital oil hub. Reminds me of that time I stumbled upon a hidden Nazi airfield just before they were about to launch a surprise attack – only this time instead of biplanes we’re talking about oil tankers and potential economic warfare. Apparently the fire in Fujairah started after debris fell from a drone interception. Drones these days… they're not like the monkeys that steal your stuff in Cairo. Now the Iranian Revolutionary Guard is throwing gasoline on the fire declaring that U.S. interests in the UAE are “legitimate targets.” That’s never a good sign. It is like when Belloq started chanting at the Ark of the Covenant – you know something messy is about to happen.

Crude Awakening

President Trump bless his heart has admitted to ordering a bombing raid on Kharg. He says they didn’t "wipe out" the oil infrastructure which is… reassuring I guess? Reminds me of when I “didn’t quite destroy” the Temple of Doom. The point is even a little damage can have big repercussions. This whole situation smells like trouble. The kind of trouble that could send oil prices soaring higher than a runaway mine cart.

Fortune and Glory... and Higher Gas Prices

Brent crude oil is already hovering above $100 a barrel a 40% jump since this whole mess kicked off. Analysts are worried about a potential U.S. move to seize Kharg Island calling it “extremely high risk.” You don’t need a PhD in archaeology to see that seizing an island in the middle of a conflict zone is a recipe for disaster. If the U.S. takes Kharg expect even more volatility and expect your wallet to feel the pinch.

This five mile long coral island has been untouched throughout weeks of strikes. But now with the stakes higher than ever it could become the next battleground. This could have a lasting impact on global politics and economics. For now I’m going to keep my hat on my whip handy and my passport up to date.
