Red Flags Flying High Over Havana
As someone who's seen my fair share of drama – songwriting about it living it you name it – even I can recognize when a situation is escalating faster than my last album sales. According to Russian state news outlet RIA Novosti the Kremlin is saying the situation in fuel starved Cuba is getting more intense by the minute especially after that incident with the U.S. registered speedboat.
Speedboats and Borderlines: A 'Cruel Summer' Indeed
Okay so here's the tea. Apparently Cuban border guards were involved in a deadly incident with a speedboat that had a Florida tag. I'm not saying I condone violence but when you mix international waters alleged gunfire and a boatload of… well boatload of issues things get complicated. Secretary of State Marco Rubio calls it "highly unusual," and honestly I'm inclined to agree. Speaking of unusual situations did you know Saba Capital Swoops In Blue Owl's Private Credit Troubles? You can read more about that Saba Capital Swoops In Blue Owl's Private Credit Troubles if you're into financial drama as much as I am into uh songwriting about drama. Just saying.
Trump's Oil Blockade: 'Bad Blood' or Business as Usual?
Here's where it gets tricky. The Trump administration has essentially cut Cuba off from Venezuelan oil. Remember that whole “an unusual and extraordinary threat” declaration? Yeah that’s looming large. The UN is throwing around words like “humanitarian collapse,” and that’s never a good sign. It feels like a geopolitical game of 'Love Story' gone wrong – everyone’s got their version of what happened and nobody's quite listening.
Essential Services and Rationing: 'All Too Well' Remembered?
Cuba's trying to keep things afloat – literally and figuratively – by rationing fuel and protecting essential services. It's like they're trying to make 'the best day' out of a really tough situation which let’s be honest is something I know a little bit about. The whole thing is giving me deja vu of past economic crises except this time it's playing out on the world stage.
Geopolitical Chess Moves: Who's Playing the 'Long Game'?
Russia is stepping in at least verbally emphasizing the “humanitarian component.” Meanwhile the U.S. is gearing up for an “appropriate” response after an independent investigation. It's a high stakes game of chess and the Cuban people are caught in the middle. Honestly I've written songs with less complexity than this whole situation.
Turning the Page: 'Begin Again'?
At the end of the day this isn’t just about politics or oil or speedboats. It’s about people. It’s about the potential for a humanitarian crisis and the need for some serious diplomacy. Maybe just maybe it’s time for everyone involved to take a deep breath look at the bigger picture and try to 'Begin Again'.
