Trouble Brewing in the Desert Again

Well folks it appears another artifact has stirred up a hornet's nest – this time in Washington D.C. not some dusty tomb. Joe Kent the director of the National Counterterrorism Center has decided to walk away from the Trump administration over the brewing conflict with Iran. Reminds me of that time I found the Ark of the Covenant. I thought I was doing the right thing you know 'It belongs in a museum'. Turns out some things are better left buried and some people are better left…well never mind. Kent claims Trump is being strong armed by Israel into starting a war. That's a bold statement even for a fella who's been around the block like I have.

The Blame Game Begins

Trump naturally isn't taking this lying down. He's dismissing Kent as "weak on security." You know I've been called many things – a grave robber a thief a swashbuckler – but never weak. It seems everyone's got an opinion these days. Even the White House Press Secretary is chiming in accusing Kent of echoing "false claims" made by Democrats and the liberal media. Sounds like a real dogfight is brewing and it may remind one of another political fight like Noem Accused of Perjury Democrats Demand Investigation. It's never simple is it? Just like trying to decipher hieroglyphics while being chased by Nazis – always complicated. This whole ordeal is starting to feel like I'm stuck in that rotating room from the Cairo Swordsman fight. I get knocked down but I get up again. And so it goes.

Following the Trail of Breadcrumbs

Now here's where things get interesting. Kent's got a past. He's a former CIA paramilitary officer and a veteran of the Middle East. So he's seen some things that's for sure. His background lends some weight to his claims or at least makes them worth considering. It's like finding an ancient map – you don't just toss it aside. You examine it you analyze it you try to figure out where it leads. And Tulsi Gabbard the Director of National Intelligence is playing it cool seemingly keeping quiet while the pot boils. It’s all very hush hush and mysterious.

Political Minefield

Of course politics rears its ugly head as it always does. Kent ran for Congress twice and lost and he's been associated with some controversial views. It's always the same isn't it? Politics. It’s like trying to navigate a temple filled with booby traps – one wrong step and you're done for. This resignation has sparked a real divide with folks on both sides of the aisle weighing in. Senator Warner a Democrat agrees with Kent on the Iran issue despite disagreeing with him on pretty much everything else. Now that is something very important.

The Critics Circle

And then there are the critics. Trump's former deputy chief of staff Taylor Budowich is calling Kent a "crazed egomaniac" who's just looking for attention. Ouch. Seems like everyone's got an axe to grind or perhaps a whip to lash. People say I am a grave robber people say I am after fortune and glory but I do it for research and educational porpouses. This whole thing is starting to feel like that snake pit in the Well of Souls – full of venom and nowhere to run.

Digging for the Truth

So what's the truth of the matter? Is Trump being unduly influenced by Israel? Is Iran really an imminent threat? Is Joe Kent a disgruntled ex official or a patriot sounding the alarm? As usual the truth is probably somewhere in between. Time will tell if Kent’s statements have merit. Until then I'll stick to what I know best: dodging bullets deciphering ancient texts and trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guys.
