Mmm Driverless Donuts Mobile
Well folks looks like Amazon's got another gadget and this time it's a car that drives itself. A car! That drives! It's like that time I tried to build my own car out of a couch and some spare tires but probably less flammable. These 'Zoox' robotaxis are hitting the streets of Austin and Miami and I gotta say the idea of a car without a steering wheel is both terrifying and... well mostly terrifying. But hey maybe I can finally catch up on my donut eating while I 'commute'.
Eat My Shorts Traffic
They're starting small just letting Zoox employees and their families take a spin. Smart move. Imagine unleashing these things on real traffic before they're ready. It would be like letting Bart Simpson loose in the power plant pure chaos. But if they get it right maybe I can finally ditch Marge and the kids and go on a road trip powered by Duff beer and the sweet sweet freedom of not having to pay attention. And if they don't get it right well... D'oh! But speaking of advancements and leadership in the space China's electric vehicle market is moving fast and there are many factors to consider see Chinese EV Dominance Unveiled Subsidies Not the Sole Driver for details on the subject.
Vegas Baby Robotaxi Style
Zoox is also expanding its reach in San Francisco and Vegas which means more chances to see these things in action. And apparently they're gonna be shuttling people to 'high traffic events' like the Sphere and T Mobile Arena in Vegas. I just hope they don't get distracted by the bright lights and start driving in circles. Though honestly that sounds like something I'd do even without a robotaxi.
Testing Testing 1 2... D'oh
Right now they're testing these things in 10 cities gathering data like it's free donuts. The CEO Aicha Evans says they'll have 100 of these robotaxis on the road soon. That's a lot of robots! I hope they don't rise up against us and demand better donut prices. But hey at least they're not powered by nuclear energy... yet. That's probably a season 37 plotline.
The Red Tape Roadblock
The biggest issue? Getting Uncle Sam to sign off on 2,500 of these things. It's like trying to convince Marge to let me buy a rocket launcher lots of paperwork and raised eyebrows. But if they get the okay it could mean a whole new world of driverless possibilities. Or you know a whole new world of potential accidents. Either way I'm here for it.
Uber Allies Doh
And get this Zoox is teaming up with Uber. It's like Krusty the Clown partnering with Sideshow Bob a truly unexpected alliance. Uber wants to 'learn a lot' from this which probably means they want to figure out how to avoid paying drivers. But hey as long as they keep the fares low I'm happy to let a robot take me to Moe's.
