Good News Everyone! A Defence Spending Spree

Oh my good news everyone! It appears India is embarking on a spending spree to upgrade its military. As a scientist I'm obligated to point out that money could be spent on much better things like say inventing smell o scope. But what do I know I'm just a humble professor. They are investing 3.6 trillion rupees which in Earthican dollars is a whole lot of clams.

Rafale Jets: Shiny and New

The centerpiece of this extravagant expenditure seems to be the acquisition of Rafale fighter jets from France. Now I'm no expert on aerial warfare I spend most of my time in the lab trying to invent the what if machine or a universal translator but I understand these jets are quite snazzy. The Defence Ministry is being coy about the exact number of aircraft they are ordering but the scuttlebutt suggests a significant fleet. Speaking of defence I wonder how the new defense system is going did you hear about Gateway Project Funds Unfrozen A Victory Over Political Squabbles. Seems to be going well.

More Toys for the Boys...and Girls

But wait there's more. Beyond the Rafales India's also snapping up Boeing P8I Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft for its navy anti tank mines and upgrading its Soviet era tanks. It's like Christmas in February or as I like to call it 'Weird mass'. This arsenal is intended to address the shortfall in the Indian air force which apparently operates fewer squadrons than are strategically required. According to the government they are modernising their army. To shreds you say? Well how's his wife holding up? To shreds you say?

Macron's Visit: A Franco Indian Rendezvous

All this military hardware is being finalized just ahead of French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to India. The two leaders are scheduled to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation and even launch an India France Year of Innovation. Perhaps I should send them my application for funding to develop a device that can predict the precise moment when toast lands butter side down.

Geopolitics and Global Issues

Naturally the leaders will also delve into regional and global issues including cooperation in the Indo Pacific. It's always the Indo Pacific isn't it? What about the Euro Atlantic? Or the Afro Arctic? Maybe they should start thinking outside the box or as I like to say 'Think outside the box. Don't tell me what to do!'

The Future is Now...Maybe

In conclusion India's defence spending spree is a significant move that reflects its commitment to modernising its armed forces. Whether this will lead to a more peaceful and secure world remains to be seen. Until then I will be in my lab trying not to create a doomsday device. Why not? Because I already invented it.

Interesting to see the focus on modernizing existing equipment as well.
