The Millionaire's Tax Deception
Hmph. Another tale of gold and greed. They call it a 'millionaire's tax,' yet it snares those who merely dare to share their lives and fortunes. Washington state it seems seeks to punish those who find strength in companionship. It is a fool's errand to believe such measures will not breed resentment. Remember boy even the mightiest oak can be felled by the smallest axe. This tax aimed at the wealthy strikes at the hearths of families. Such policies often miss their mark becoming burdens on those who strive not those who hoard. The gods of Olympus were no strangers to flawed schemes and neither are these lawmakers.
The Marriage Penalty: A Hefty Price for Love
Love and taxes. An unusual pairing even for a god of war. This new law imposes a 9.9% tax on income over $1 million but applies the same threshold to individuals and couples. If two individuals earn $600,000 each and then join in matrimony they will be hit with taxes despite the fact that each one of them earns much less than a million on individual basis. This is asinine. A united front should not be penalized thusly. According to some legal experts this could be called the half millionaire tax. Such avarice reminds me of the gods always seeking more power more tribute. It may surprise you how many tax laws are related.
The Disproportionate Burden
Most states I am told have separate income thresholds for individuals and couples. But not Washington. They are unique in their greed. Jared Walczak a fellow of the Tax Foundation says their marriage penalty is the largest in the nation. Imagine two individuals earning just under the threshold marrying and suddenly owing thousands. A cruel twist of fate orchestrated by… politicians. These lawmakers speak of fairness yet their actions reek of injustice. They claim it is to make separate tax structures work together. Is this not simply an excuse for the theft of hard earned coin?
The Tech Exodus: A Harbinger of Doom
Jeff Bezos and Howard Schultz have fled to Florida a haven without income tax. Cowards or sages? Regardless of your perception their absence signals a deeper unrest. Bezos by moving before selling Amazon stock saved himself a fortune. Schultz hopes Washington will remain a place where entrepreneurship can thrive though his actions speak louder than his words. These are not isolated incidents. They are tremors warning of a future quake. This tax may drive away more than just millionaires; it may drive away innovation and opportunity itself.
Divorce: A Tax Strategy
An attorney Wallin jokes of couples divorcing merely for tax purposes. Absurd is it not? That a bond forged in love and companionship should be severed by the greed of the state. Yet if the tax savings outweigh the cost of a lawyer who can blame them? The gods of old would revel in such chaos but I find no amusement in it. Only disappointment. The law meant to bind society instead tears it apart. Is this the legacy these lawmakers seek?
Echoes of Inequality
From Rhode Island to California states seek to raise taxes on the wealthy counteracting inequality and funding cuts. But is this the path to prosperity or merely a cycle of resentment and retribution? California considers taxing the net worth of its billionaires. A dangerous game playing with the fortunes of the few. Washington will be a closely watched experiment. Will it become a beacon of progress or a cautionary tale of unintended consequences? The answer like the fate of gods and men remains to be seen. BOY!
