Holy Crap Lois Apple's in Trouble
Alright so apparently West Virginia's attorney general this John "JB" McCuskey guy is suing Apple. He's saying they haven't done enough to stop child sexual abuse material from spreading on their iPhones and iCloud. You know like when Stewie tries to take over the world but forgets to account for like diaper changes? It's a similar level of oversight.
Privacy vs. Protecting the Little Guys
McCuskey claims Apple cares more about its fancy privacy branding than you know actually protecting kids. Apparently companies like Google and Microsoft are using this thing called PhotoDNA to block CSAM but Apple with all its money is dragging its feet. It's like when I try to diet but then I see a pizza. Priorities am I right? Speaking of things that make me anxious have you read this other article about AI Jitters Trigger Wall Street Stock Sell Off But Analysts Say Relax? It's almost as scary as Lois when she's mad.
Apple's Shady History
Back in 2021 Apple tried to roll out its own CSAM detection features but then these privacy folks got all worried about government spying and censorship. So Apple chickened out. Now people are suing them saying they should've stuck to their guns. It reminds me of that time I tried to be a superhero but then I realized spandex chafes. The sacrifices just weren't worth it.
The British Are Coming…With Complaints
Even the Brits are getting in on this. This group called the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (catchy name) says Apple isn't doing enough to monitor and report CSAM. It's like when Peter Lowenbrau Griffin tries to act sophisticated but then he spills gravy on his monocle. Some things just don't mix.
What Happens Now
If West Virginia wins Apple might have to change how it designs its products and handles data. They could get hit with fines too. Apple is trying to defend itself. They say they have parental controls and features like Communication Safety that protect kids. But is it enough? Sounds like the perfect opportunity to ask for a pay raise from the company to protect children so I can afford more beer.
Apple's Defense It's a Bold Strategy Cotton
Apple's spokesperson released a statement saying they're all about safety and privacy especially for kids. They point to features like Communication Safety that automatically intervene when nudity is detected in Messages Shared Photos AirDrop and even live FaceTime calls and parental controls as evidence of their commitment. You know kinda like when I try to eat healthy by ordering a diet soda and super size everything else on the menu.

Privacy is important, but not at the expense of children's safety.
