Peace on the Horizon?
Alright let's talk business. Apparently there's chatter about the U.S. and Iran maybe just maybe burying the hatchet. Trump's saying they're "talking sense," which is like hearing my kids say they'll clean their rooms without being asked. A New York Times report dropped a 15 point plan for ending the war. Meanwhile the Pentagon's prepping to send troops. Confusing right? It's like trying to understand offside in soccer. Even Jamie Dimon from JPMorgan Chase thinks this whole shebang could lead to peace. Treasury yields are dropping and oil futures are taking a dive. Hopefully it's good news for everyone though I'm sticking to kicking balls not starting wars. "The ball is always round and the game isn't over until it's over." – some wise words I once said.
Meta's Legal Messi
Oof Meta's in a bit of a pickle. A jury in New Mexico hit them with a $375 million fine for not protecting kids on Facebook and Instagram. Seems like they violated some unfair practices act. Meta says they'll appeal which is what my opponents say when I score a hat trick against them. But hey justice is blind or at least it's supposed to be. In other news Anthropic's battling the Defense Department in court over a ban on their products. Judge Rita Lin thinks the ban looks like an attempt to "cripple" the AI startup. Quite the legal drama eh? Makes a Champions League final look tame. While on the topic you should check this out: Revolut Finally Banks on UK Dreams after Regulatory Gauntlet.
OpenAI's Strategic Play
OpenAI's pulling the plug on their short form video app Sora. It had a million downloads in five days then poof gone. They're apparently trying to cut costs prepping for a potential IPO. CFO Sarah Friar mentioned they're raising another $10 billion from investors. Big money folks. Makes my Barcelona contract look like pocket change... almost. It seems they are very confident and they might be as good as when I'm on the field.
Shutdown Showdown
Looks like the Senate Republicans and the White House are close to a deal to end the partial government shutdown. They're funding the Department of Homeland Security except for part of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement budget. Still the Democrats are holding their breath. Meanwhile Delta's suspending airport escorts for Congress members. Talk about turbulence. Makes you wonder if they're missing my flights back home.
Merck's Acquisition Spree
Merck's buying Terns Pharmaceuticals for $6.7 billion. That's a lot of zeroes. It's their third big acquisition this year trying to beef up their portfolio before their Keytruda drug loses patent protection in 2028. Terns shares jumped. It's like when I fake one way then dribble the other way. Always gets a reaction.
Daily Dividends and Micron's Dip
Micron's stock's been falling. Apparently investors are worried about their ability to meet demand. Sometimes even the best companies have a rough patch like when I missed that penalty against Chile. You win some you lose some. What I do know is that it is all part of the game and sometimes you are up and sometimes you are down. I try to stay up.
