Like Peas and Carrots Lilly and Centessa Join Forces
Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates you never know what you're gonna get. But this here deal between Eli Lilly and Centessa Pharmaceuticals well it seems like they know exactly what they're getting: a whole lotta potential in the sleepin' pills business. Lilly they're droppin' up to $7.8 billion to get their hands on Centessa and their fancy drug for folks who can't seem to stay awake during the day. Seems like a lot of money but then again Jenny always said I had a knack for seein' things others didn't. Maybe Lilly sees sleepy people everywhere just like I saw Bubba talkin' about shrimp.
Run Forrest Run... to the Pharmacy
This ain't about runnin' no football though. This is about runnin' to the pharmacy... or maybe having the pharmacy come to you. Seems like this drug could help folks with narcolepsy and other problems even maybe Alzheimer's and depression. Lilly's CEO Dave Ricks he said it's kinda like those GLP 1 drugs like sleepin' and wakin' up are core to how we function. And when they ain't workin' right it causes a problem. I gotta agree with him being tired all the time sounds like a mighty big problem. Stupid is as Stupid Sleeps
The deal is for $38 a share upfront which adds up to $6.3 billion. If those sleepy pills get approved by the government folks at the FDA by a certain date Lilly will throw in another $1.5 billion. It's like catchin' a whole bunch of shrimp only instead of eatin' them you're tryin' to make people stay awake. I don't know much about stocks and shares but even I can see that Lilly's stock went up a bit while Centessa's jumped up like a frog on a hot skillet.
We Was Always Takin' Some Kind of Trip
Now Centessa ain't the only player in this sleepy game. There's another company Takeda with a drug that's waitin' for the FDA's thumbs up. One of those analyst fellas Kostas Biliouris thinks that if these drugs work this whole sleepin' pills market could be worth $15 to $20 billion. That's a whole lotta money even more than what I made from that shrimpin' boat. And Mama always said "Money is like a feather; here one minute gone the next."
Lilly's Been Around the Block and Back Again
Lilly they ain't new to this game. They made that Prozac stuff way back when and now they're workin' on drugs for Alzheimer's. They even got a new one called Kisunla. They plan to use the money from their weight loss and diabetes pills to make even more bets just like when I won big on that ping pong game. You gotta use what you got I always say.
Affecting Millions of People
So there you have it. Eli Lilly wants to help folks who can't stay awake and they're willin' to pay a whole lotta money to do it. Mr. Ricks says it's about affectin' millions of people who suffer from these here brain problems. I hope it works out for 'em. 'Cause like Lieutenant Dan always said "That's all I have to say about that."
