Brace Yourselves Buttercups Fuel Prices Are Skyrocketing

Alright alright settle down you powder monkeys. Word on the street or rather from those boring suits at United Airlines is that things are about to get…explosive. Apparently this whole shebang in Iran is causing fuel prices to go higher than my hair on a good day. And you know what that means right? Chaos! Mayhem! And slightly more expensive plane tickets. "Rules are meant to be broken" and fuel prices apparently are meant to explode.

Cutting Flights Like I Cut Loose

So United is doing what any self respecting slightly unhinged airline would do: they're cutting flights. Specifically the ones that aren't making them a mountain of cash. Midweek flights Saturday flights overnight flights…basically anything that isn't peak chaos. They're even pulling back some capacity from Chicago O'Hare and keeping those Tel Aviv and Dubai flights grounded. Sounds like a party right? And speaking of mayhem I heard those eggheads in Washington are still bickering about energy. Much like Washington Gridlock Faces Rambo's Energy Permitting Reform it's always a blast watching them try to sort things out. Honestly you'd think they never heard of the phrase "Here comes trouble".

Fare Hikes to the Rescue (Maybe)

But don't you worry your pretty little heads! The suits at United are saying that strong travel demand is letting them jack up the fares. Which let's be honest is basically robbing you blind but hey at least you get a tiny bag of peanuts right? Other airlines are doing the same dance so at least it's a level playing field of highway robbery. Just remember when your wallet's crying "Embrace the madness" because you're jet setting somewhere fun.

No Hedging Just Hoping

Now here's a fun fact: most US airlines United included don't bother with this whole fuel hedging thing. Apparently they'd rather gamble and hope for the best than you know actually plan ahead. It's like me trying to defuse a bomb with my eyes closed. Risky but hey what's life without a little excitement? Personally I think this plan is "super dead super dead!"

Long Term Growth? Don't Get Your Hopes Up

Despite the flight cuts and fare hikes United is still going on about long term growth and taking delivery of new planes. They're even promising not to fire anyone or delay investments which is surprising. Seems like the suits are trying to put on a brave face and say "We're gonna have so much fun" even though things are looking a little dicey. Either they are crazy or they are crazy smart. I really can't tell.

Chaos Is Inevitable

So there you have it folks. United Airlines is bracing for impact cutting flights raising fares and hoping for the best. Will it work? Who knows! But one thing's for sure: things are about to get interesting. And as I always say "Okay world time to play". It's going to be fun to watch this whole thing blow up...figuratively of course. Unless...no I shouldn't.
