Another Day Another Alien… Oh Wait Just a Drone

Alright people Ripley here. Seems like the universe or at least this little corner of it in the Arabian Sea is determined to keep things interesting. Word came down that some gizmo an Iranian drone identified as a Shahed 139 decided to play chicken with the USS Abraham Lincoln. Now I've faced down Xenomorphs so a drone doesn't exactly make me lose sleep but the situation's got more layers than a Weyland Yutani cover up.

Aggressive Maneuvers and Unclear Intent What's the Deal

Apparently this drone "aggressively approached" the carrier its intentions as clear as mud. Captain Tim Hawkins a U.S. Central Command spokesman told CNBC the Lincoln was just minding its own business about 500 miles from Iran's southern coast when this unmanned aircraft started its little dance. The drone supposedly "unnecessarily maneuvered" towards the ship. Look I'm no pilot but even I know that if something's flying at you with 'unclear intent,' you don't wait for it to start serving tea. Seems like someone took matters into their own hands and de escalated the situation rather quickly. Speaking of someone taking matters into their own hands maybe you should check this Yabba Dabba Doo Panama Canal Kerfuffle China's Mad article out

Self Defense and a F 35 My Kind of Party

So an F 35 warplane from the Abraham Lincoln decided to play exterminator. According to reports it shot down the drone "in self defense to protect the aircraft carrier and personnel on board." No injuries no damage to our equipment. Good. Because last thing we need is another derelict spaceship situation on our hands. But let's face it this drone was definitely a hostile. Remember what Lambert said "I can't do that I'm a technician". Don't be a technician blast them.

From Drones to Harassment The Fun Never Stops

But wait there's more. Hours later Iranian forces decided to harass a U.S. flagged merchant vessel the M/V Stena Imperative in the Strait of Hormuz. Threatened to board and seize it according to Hawkins. Thankfully a U.S. guided missile destroyer stepped in de escalated things and the merchant vessel is now sailing smoothly. One crisis averted only a dozen more to go.

Diplomacy or Military Might A Balancing Act

Trump's got the Abraham Lincoln deployed in the Middle East threatening strikes if Iran doesn't play ball with the whole nuclear program thing. His special envoy Steve Witkoff is supposed to be having talks with Iranian officials later this week. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says Trump is committed to "pursuing diplomacy first," but also mentioned he "always has a range of options on the table and that includes the use of military force." Sounds familiar "I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

Final Thoughts on Hostile Encounters

Look I've learned a few things from my run ins with intergalactic nasties. One never trust a corporation (especially if they have a "W" in their name). Two always have a backup plan (and a flamethrower). And three sometimes you gotta take decisive action before things get out of hand. Let's hope these politicians can figure out the diplomacy thing before we're all facing another bug hunt. Ripley out.

Let's not forget the human cost of conflict. War is never the answer.
