Hormuz Strait Shutdown: No Room Service
Alright listen up. The boys at CNBC are saying this Iran war mess is messin' with the fertilizer supply. See a third of the world's fertilizer goes through this Strait of Hormuz. Now that it's lookin' like a ghost town prices are goin' through the roof. We talkin' urea ammonia – the good stuff farmers need. It's like tryin' to get room service in a motel six ain't gonna happen.
Skyrocketing Prices: Say Hello to My Little Price Hike
These eggheads at Oxford Economics are cryin' about urea and ammonia prices goin' up 50% and 20% respectively. And this ain't just pocket change see? This is gonna hit the farmers hard and when they hurt everybody hurts. Now the prices are exploding just like in this South Korean Defense Stocks Explode Amidst Global Tensions article and are making global instability just much worse. It's like that time I had to pay double for gas during that oil crisis. "Every dog has his day," but this ain't the kind of day anyone wants.
Nitrogen Nightmare: You Need It Every Year
This Ninety One guy Dawid Heyl he's sayin' nitrogen fertilizer is the real problem. You can skip the other stuff but not nitrogen. Farmers gotta have it every year to grow the good stuff – maize wheat the works. No nitrogen no crops. And no crops no food. Startin' to sound like a horror movie ain't it? This is worse than that time I ran out of blow.
Worse Than Ukraine: This is Bigger Than Miami
Remember that Russia Ukraine thing? Well this crisis in the Middle East is lookin' worse. This Argus broad Sarah Marlow says almost half the world's sulfur comes from that region and a third of the urea. That's huge bigger than Miami. When those guys are out of the game everyone's feelin' the pinch. It's like when you can't get a good Cuban sandwich in Little Havana. Unacceptable.
China's Game: Don't Get High on Your Own Supply
And China's playin' games too restrictin' exports to protect their own stash. It's like they're sayin' "Don't get high on your own supply." Smart but it screws everyone else. This is the kinda stuff that makes me wanna go back to the business.
Food Security Fears: The World is Yours?
All this crap is addin' up to one thing: food insecurity. This Heyl guy says we got some buffer stocks but if crop yields drop we're lookin' at food inflation. And the poor countries? They're gonna get hit the hardest. It's the same old story: the rich get richer and the poor get screwed. Makes you wonder if "the world is yours" is just a bunch of bull.
