Breaking Bad News in the Middle East

Alright folks Saul Goodman here your favorite lawyer and now apparently a geopolitical analyst because why not? I've seen crazier things working with Walter White. Word on the street or rather on the sea is that things are getting hotter than a Los Pollos Hermanos fryer down in the Strait of Hormuz. Ships are getting hit tensions are rising and suddenly everyone's an expert on maritime law. "Better Call Saul," maybe they should. I mean I'm great with damage control and this situation? It's a real fixer upper.

Strait is Not So Great

So apparently some ships have had a real bad day. Projectiles flying around fires breaking out – sounds like a typical day in Albuquerque just replace 'projectiles' with 'dodgeballs' and 'fires' with 'bad cooking'. The UKMTO is telling ships to be careful which is like telling Walter White to be careful when he's cooking up a batch. It's a nice thought but let's be realistic. And speaking of being realistic you should check this article about Paramount and HBO Max Merger A Streaming Empire Strikes Back it might offer a needed distraction during this time! We need something to watch while we wait for this mess to get sorted.

Global Oil Crisis? Oh My...

Now here's where things get interesting and by interesting I mean potentially profitable for some and disastrous for everyone else. This Strait of Hormuz it's kind of a big deal. Twenty percent of the world's oil and gas goes through there. So if that gets shut down we're talking gas prices higher than my legal fees. And that's saying something. Remember folks chaos is a ladder and I'm always looking for the next rung.

U.S. Steps In Sort Of

Uncle Sam's getting involved too. Apparently they sunk some Iranian ships including minelayers. Now I'm no naval expert but that sounds like a pretty aggressive move. Trump even chimed in demanding the removal of any mines. It's like a scene from one of those old war movies except with more tweets and less subtlety. "If you're committed enough you can make any story work." That's what I always say.

Verisk Maplecroft Sounds Ominous

Some fancy pants analyst from Verisk Maplecroft is saying that Iran poses a 'very real threat to shipping.' Well duh. Tell me something I don't know. Like maybe who's going to pay for all these damages? Because I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of lawsuits coming down the pike. And you know who's good at lawsuits? Saul Goodman. That's who.

Better Call Saul for Maritime Law?

So what's the takeaway here? The Strait of Hormuz is a mess tensions are high and the world's oil supply is potentially at risk. Sounds like a perfect storm for someone like me. I might just have to brush up on my maritime law. After all a good lawyer knows a little about everything. And if things get really bad? Well remember what I always say "No matter what happens somebody always finds a way to cheat."
