A Win for the Underdog It's Showtime Folks
Well folks seems like the Academy decided to "break bad" from the usual Oscar predictability this year. Forget your predictable dramas and rom coms the big winner was "One Battle After Another," a movie about a revolutionary turned pot smoking dad. I'm telling you even I couldn't have scripted a more surprising twist. Makes you wonder if maybe just maybe I should try my hand at screenwriting. After all who knows more about "battles" than yours truly Saul Goodman. And who knows maybe I would win a Best Picture.
From Revolution to Reefer Madness The Plot Thickens
Director Paul Thomas Anderson a guy who's been nominated more times than I've worn a new suit finally got his due. And he dedicated the win to his kids apologizing for the mess we're leaving the world. Class act. But let's not forget "Sinners," the vampire movie that gave "One Battle" a run for its money. Speaking of money these awards are a real shot in the arm for these movies kinda like how a certain someone would benefit from a little boost maybe I should consider reaching out to some award winners to explore the possibilities. Penn's Absence A Supporting Role Saga
Sean Penn who was apparently too busy saving the world (or maybe just sleeping in) won Best Supporting Actor. Kieran Culkin accepted on his behalf proving that even in Hollywood you can't always get what you want. But hey at least someone got an Oscar. Speaking of representing people remember "Better Call Saul" because you never know when you might need a lawyer especially when things get a little too Hollywood.
Diversity Takes Center Stage A New Era Dawns
"Sinners" wasn't just about vampires and segregation; it was a celebration of Black culture. Michael B. Jordan in a move that would make even Gus Fring crack a smile paid tribute to the Black Oscar winners who paved the way. And Autumn Durald Arkapaw made history as the first Black woman to win Best Cinematography. Progress people. Progress. Makes you wanna do the right thing even when it's hard. Maybe.
From Shakespeare to K Pop A Global Affair
Jessie Buckley won for playing Shakespeare's wife proving that even the Bard's family drama can win you an Oscar. And "KPop Demon Hunters" took home Best Animated Feature because apparently even demons can't resist a catchy tune. The world's getting smaller folks. You gotta stay ahead of the curve. Know your audience know your market know your K Pop.
Farewell to the Legends A Time to Reflect
The Oscars took a moment to honor Robert Redford and Rob Reiner two giants who shaped the industry. Billy Crystal and Barbra Streisand shared heartfelt tributes reminding us that even in this crazy business some things are worth remembering. And speaking of crazy businesses I've seen my fair share. So remember when you're in deep you know who to call.
