Strait Under Siege
As Sarah Kerrigan former Queen of Blades and current… well let's just say 'expert' on strategic choke points I've seen a few tense situations. This Strait of Hormuz deal is heating up faster than a Zerg hatchery under siege. The U.S. Navy's about to start playing chauffeur for oil tankers. Apparently someone thinks closing the strait is a swell idea. Spoiler alert it's not. Bessent's talking like he's got this but I've heard bolder claims from Marines facing a Mutalisk swarm. "Complete control of the skies?" Reminds me of Arcturus Mengsk and his promises. We all know how that turned out.
The Waiting Game
Bessent's saying the Navy will escort ships as soon as it's 'militarily possible'. Seems like a diplomatic way of saying 'we're not quite ready to rumble'. Wright's being more blunt about it admitting that all assets are tied up in dismantling Iran's war machine. Classic case of overreach. Makes you wonder if they even thought this through. I mean anyone who's faced a Siege Tank knows you need a plan before you start blasting. Speaking of blasting you should read Khamenei's X Account Ignites Geopolitical Firestorm it seems everyone is trigger happy with these keyboards now it's not always about the battle fields
Trump's Oil Tycoon Gambit
And then there's Trump suggesting oil CEOs send tankers through. That's like telling a bunch of Marines to go cuddle a Baneling. Someone's going to get hurt. Granted I've dealt with worse leadership decisions but this is a special kind of cluelessness. Maybe he thinks Big Oil has enough Marines to hold the line. In any case it seems like more and more people are underestimating the situation and the importance of the trade in the area.
Insurance and Assurance
Chubb's playing underwriter betting they can keep these ships afloat literally and figuratively. It’s a risky game. Reminds me of the early days of the Dominion where Arcturus was insuring loyalty with promises he couldn’t keep. Still the US assures they ran the scenario analysis and they are ready. But are they really? I guess only time will tell.
Khamenei's Gambit: Closing the Strait
Now Khamenei wants to use the Strait as leverage. A power play straight out of the Zerg playbook. Cornering your opponent squeezing the resources. It's a bold move but it has risks. When you back someone into a corner they tend to bite back and it all goes down hill from here. Now the question is: how will the parties ensure the situation doesn't boil over and escalate?
The Bigger Picture: Global Instability
All this posturing and saber rattling isn't just about oil. It's about power control and the ripple effects across the globe. As someone who's seen empires rise and fall I can tell you it's rarely as simple as 'good versus evil'. More often it's just a bunch of players moving pieces on a very dangerous board. And the pawns? Well they always pay the price. "Hope is a currency and I deal in lead."
