Mama Mia Target Gets Targeted

It's a me Mario reporting live from the Mushroom Kingdom or well from wherever this whole Target business is unfolding. Apparently the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) that's a one big union of teachers is telling everyone to skip Target for their back to school shopping. 'It's a no good,' they say because Target didn't jump high enough after some immigration stuff went down in Minneapolis. Sounds like a tough situation for everyone involved eh?

The Union's Beef is not Made of Mushrooms

So the AFT led by Randi Weingarten is pretty steamed that Target didn't speak up loudly enough about federal immigration enforcement. Seems federal agents shot and ahem took out two U.S. citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti. The union feels like Target should have done more and now they're calling on their 1.8 million members to shop elsewhere preferably at local stores. They're even trying to get other big groups like the NAACP and LULAC on board. Speaking of big problems you might also want to read up on Warren Demands Economic Answers on Iran War: Lois I Need My Evil Money. Now that is a big problem I tell you! Looks like Target is not having a good time and that is a no good.

Target's Turnaround is Under Fire

Poor Target eh? They've been trying to bounce back after a few rough years. Their sales have been shrinking for the past three years in a row. The new CEO Michael Fiddelke is trying to bring the company back to life but with this boycott and a other problems it's gonna be a tough climb. It's a like trying to jump over a giant Goomba – tricky business. They said net sales might go up like 2% this year but these boycotts can really throw a wrench in the gears.

DEI Drama: A Here We Go Again

And just when Target thought they were out of the woods BAM another boycott! Earlier this month some pastor in Atlanta ended a year long boycott called "Target Fast" because Target started putting money into Black businesses and schools. But now another activist Nina Turner says the boycott is still a thing. Seems like everyone's got a bone to pick. As I would say: "It's a me Mario!"

Standing Up for The Community

Weingarten said Target is "more worried about standing with the Trump administration than the communities that made them a profitable company". Ouch. That's a strong statement. She says the AFT sent a letter and met with Target staff trying to get them to speak up. But Target didn't do enough according to her. It is always very important to take a stance in our community.

The Back to School Battle

Now the AFT is hoping to hit Target where it hurts – during the back to school shopping season. Weingarten thinks this is the perfect time to make a difference. By getting the word out now they hope Target will "come back to its senses." It's like trying to get Bowser to be a good guy a very difficult but hey a we can always hope. So will this boycott work? Only time will tell but for now it's a Mario signing off! Wahoo!
