Rare earth minerals become a focal point of U.S. economic strategy.
Rare earth minerals become a focal point of U.S. economic strategy.

Not Just Surviving But Thriving

Well folks seems like President Trump is taking a page right out of President Snow's playbook only instead of Hunger Games we're talking about… minerals? Apparently these 'rare earth' things are crucial for everything from phones to those fancy electric cars everyone's buzzing about. And just like District 12 needed coal America needs these minerals. Only this time it's not about survival it's about…winning? It seems that Trump announced Project Vault which is supposed to pool $2 billion in private capital with a $10 billion loan from the U.S. Export Import Bank.

Panning for Gold… or Rare Earths?

Seeing these mining companies stocks jump reminds me of when Gale and I would actually find something worth selling at the Hob. Critical Metals USA Rare Earth MP Materials—they're all seeing green. Even Energy Fuels and Idaho Strategic Resources are getting a slice of the pie. Who knew digging in the ground could be so profitable? This all makes me wonder about the Japan's Political Earthquake Takaichi's Power Grab Confirmed and how these situations are so unpredictable and fragile.

China's Got the Power… For Now

The article mentioned that China controls most of the rare earths mining and magnet manufacturing. It reminds me of how the Capitol controlled everything in Panem. Except instead of bread and circuses they've got magnets. The U.S. wants a piece of that pie and Project Vault seems to be their arrow aimed right at the heart of China's dominance. This sounds like some real games are starting.

More Than Just Rocks

This Wade Senti guy from Advanced Magnet Lab makes a good point. It's not enough to just dig up these minerals; you gotta figure out what to do with them. Turns out there are various of different options for the minerals not just neodymium. He's talking about turning them into magnets that power everything from electric vehicles to humanoid robots. So it's not just about the minerals it's about the know how the brainpower the innovation.

May the Odds Be Ever In Our Supply Chain's Favor

The important thing to remember is that the government is trying to secure the future of US companies. The 'national defense' excuse is getting a little old but I guess it works for some folks. It's kind of like saying 'We're doing this for the children' when really it's about control. Sound familiar?

A New Arena?

So are rare earth minerals the new mockingjay? Are we about to see a whole new arena of economic games? Only time will tell. For now I'm just hoping this doesn't lead to any literal hunger games. One arena is more than enough for any lifetime.
